Sizing is the actual craft

A storage system is calculated, not guessed. How many edit seats running at once, in which codecs, with how many streams each — that’s what sets the real required throughput, not the manufacturer’s spec sheet. We size the network (10, 25, 100 Gb where it counts), the storage tiers (fast production, nearline, archive) and the paths between them. The result: editors who scrub without waiting, even when every suite is running.

How a project unfolds

The workflow audit. We measure what actually moves: volumes, formats, current bottlenecks. Plenty of “storage problems” are network problems — the numbers show it before you buy anything.

The architecture. Calculated throughput, planned growth, redundancy where a failure would cost a day of production. You see the full plan before committing a dollar.

Migration without downtime. The old system stays in service while the new one comes up in parallel. We cut over in stages, project by project, with a way back at every step. Your editors keep working through the entire transition.

Questions we get asked

“Can we really migrate without stopping the edit?” Yes — it’s a matter of sequencing, not luck. We’ve done it for post houses in full production. The brutal weekend cutover is the method of people without a plan B.

“SAN, NAS, object storage: what’s the right answer?” The one that matches your workflows — and that’s a calculation, not a religion. We work with multiple manufacturers precisely so we can recommend based on your reality, not our inventory.

“Are our old archives recoverable?” Most of the time, yes — LTO tapes, orphaned drives, end-of-life servers. We assess the condition, migrate what needs to survive, and set up an archive that won’t become a problem again in five years.
